Woodwind Studio
As members of the woodwind studio, students take a weekly lesson on their major instrument, attend a weekly studio class, perform on recital, and perform in selected chamber ensembles throughout the academic year.
All students are required to own a tuner, a metronome, and a notebook by the second week of class. All music must be purchased by mid-term exams, and all accompanists must be contacted by mid-term exams. All solo repertoire that requires an accompanist must have one for the jury examination and all recital performances. |
All woodwind students are taught by Dr. Cheryl Cifelli and require that the student practice a minimum of an hour a day. Your progress is evaluated each semester through a performance for the instrumental faculty (a jury) as well as a technique jury. Both performances will be averaged into your weekly lesson grade.
Studio Class
This is a studio meeting once a week (Tuesday at 1:00) that is required of all majors. During this time aspects of wind playing that cannot be covered in your lesson will be touched upon. This is also an opportunity for students to perform before a scheduled recital and recieve feedback from your peers. Attendence at studio class will affect your studio grade.
Auditions
If you would like to audition for the Woodwind Studio, prepare an etude or a solo with contrasting styles. You may use honor band material for your audition. Auditions should only be approximtely 5 minutes in total length and do not require that you bring an accompanist. These auditions take place in a relaxed atmosphere on pre-scheduled audition days or by appointment.
