2010 Karl Haas Prize for Music Education
Peter Van de Graaff
Receives 2010 Karl Haas Prize for Music Education on KXMS Silver Anniversary
10th Anniversary of The Fine Arts Radio International Awards
Late-night program host Peter Van de Graaff was more than a little surprised Friday, September 24, when KXMS general manager Jeff Skibbe revealed that the Klassix Society had picked him as the sixth recipient of the Karl Haas Prize for Music Education in recognition of his 20-plus years of service to classical music education. Peter joins the ranks of English program host/producer Howard Goodall, 'Classical Kids' (The Children's Group/Toronto), Christopher O'Riley (host of 'From the Top'), PRI's 'Performance Today' series, and SFO conductor Michael Tilson Thomas in receiving the award named after Karl Haas, long-time host and producer of 'Adventures in Good Music'. Prior to the renaming of the award upon the death of Dr. Haas in 2005, Peter's peers in music education (under the lifetime achievement rubric) include Karl Haas, Peter Schickele, Martin Bookspan, Leonard Slatkin, and Bill McGlaughlin.
